Lithuanian poet, essayist and literary critic Tomas Venclova has received this year’s Baltic Assembly Prize for Literature for his latest poetry collection, Už Onos ir Bernardinų, the Seimas press office announced Friday.
The award ceremony was held in Riga.
Venclova, a recipient of the Lithuanian National Culture and Arts Prize, writes in Lithuanian, English and Russian. His award-winning collection includes 31 poems written over the past seven years.
Latvian conductor Kaspars Putniņš received the Baltic Assembly Arts Prize for his performance with the Latvian Radio Choir in the concert program The Dream Stream, presented during the Baltic Music Days on March 31, 2023.
The Science Prize was awarded to Dr Eva Piirimäe, a professor of political theory at the University of Tartu, for her monograph Herder and Enlightenment Politics, published in 2021.
The Innovation Prize went to the Latvian company Spark Technologies. Diplomas were also awarded to Estonian company Wayren and Lithuanian firm Luna Robotics.
Baltic Assembly medals for contributions to strengthening regional unity and promoting cooperation were presented to Brig. Gen. Christoph Huber, commander of the German Brigade in Lithuania; Giedrius Drukteinis, vice president of the Baltic Assembly and chair of the Seimas delegation; energy expert Reinis Āboltiņš; Estonian language translator and diplomat Valvi Strikaiteinė; and Baltic Assembly Secretary General Agnija Antanoviča.
Speaker of the Seimas Juozas Olekas and members of the Lithuanian delegation attended the ceremony.
