As the US and Russian president are gearing up for talks in Alaska, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys insists that Ukraine’s borders are “non-negotiable”, following comments from Donald Trump that “some swapping of territories” may be expected.
“Ukraine’s borders, sovereignty and independence are non-negotiable. From Luhansk to Crimea, every inch belongs to the sovereign nation of Ukraine, fighting for its freedom,” Budrys said in an X post on Saturday.
He added that Lithuania supports “genuine efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine” based on international law, the foundation of European security and global stability.

“Peace can only be possible through strength and unity,” the foreign minister insisted.
US President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the US state of Alaska on August 15, one more attempt to resolve the three-year conflict. Ukraine and Europe insist that Kyiv must be part of negotiations.
Announcing the summit on Friday, Trump said that “there’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both” sides, without providing further details.
Moscow on Saturday confirmed that Putin and Trump would meet in Alaska for talks next Friday, calling the choice of location “quite logical”.
