A 28-year-old Lithuanian dancer, who has been missing in Dubai since last weekend, has been found dead.
The body of Vykintas Širmas has been found in the United Arab Emirates, Revita Janavičiūtė, a spokeswoman for Lithuania's Police Department, confirmed to BNS on Friday.
“We have information that he has been found dead. We do not have any more information,” she said.
The lrytas.lt news website was the first to report on the discovery of the young man’s body.
According to its sources, the dancer was found in an apartment in the UAE a few days ago, unresponsive.
Širmas’ sister told the website on Wednesday that she had not been in contact with her brother for almost two weeks, having last talked to him on June 28. According to the website, the man was last seen last Saturday in Dubai.
Lina Banienė, a spokeswoman for Tauragė County Police, told BNS that the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau’s International Relations Board informed Tauragė County Police about the discovery.
“The missing person has been found dead and the police have not received any further details or circumstances,” Banienė said. She could not provide more information on where and when the body was found.
The circumstances of this death will be investigated by UAE law enforcement authorities, she added.
“The International Relations Board has informed that the law enforcement authorities in the area will investigate the circumstances of the incident and inform Tauragė police,” Banienė said.
According to her, Širmas’ declared place of residence is Tauragė and his permanent place of residence is Vilnius, which is why Tauragė County Police was informed about the search.
