A Lithuanian volunteer fighting with the Foreign Legion in Ukraine has been declared missing following a combat operation, LRT sources have confirmed.
The Lithuanian embassy in Kyiv and the man’s family have also confirmed his disappearance. His relatives have requested that he not be named for the time being.
More than 30,000 people are officially listed as missing in Ukraine. The actual number is believed to be higher, with many presumed dead. According to LRT sources, another Lithuanian national is also among the missing.
Meanwhile, Tadas Tumas, who was killed in February last year, remains the only confirmed Lithuanian national to have died in battle. Another citizen, Valerijus Polkovnikovas, died in a hospital in Kyiv, but the exact cause of death has not been disclosed.
According to unconfirmed reports, more than a dozen Lithuanian citizens have been injured since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The exact number of Lithuanian volunteers serving permanently in Ukraine is unclear but could be in the dozens.
