Members of Lithuania's National Defence Volunteer Force have been training this week around the southern town of Alytus to carry out peacetime tasks related to the protection of Lithuania’s LitPol link electricity interconnector with Poland, the armed forces said on Thursday.

The ongoing training will last until February 14 and involves the volunteer force’s 1st Territorial Unit, Dainava Military District.

People are asked to react calmly if they see military vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles or helicopters in Alytus or its surroundings as this is part of the planned exercise that will not disturb the population’s normal activities.

LitPol Link connects the electricity systems of Lithuania and Poland and was launched in 2015.
