The opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) continues to top the country’s political party rankings despite a drop in popularity, according to a Vilmorus poll published by the Lietuvos Rytas daily on Friday.
According to the poll, if the Seimas elections were held next Sunday, 17 percent of respondents would vote for the LSDP, compared to 20.3 percent in the previous poll conducted by Vilmorus in March.
The ruling Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) returned to second place in the rankings with 10.1 percent support, up from 7.4 percent in March when the party was in fourth place.
The opposition Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union ranked third with 8.9 percent of support, compared to 9.9 percent in March.
The Democratic Union “For Lithuania”, another opposition party, was fourth with 6.6 percent (9.6 percent in March).
The Dawn of the Nemunas (Nemuno Aušra) party, which will take part in the Seimas elections for the first time in the fall, was supported by 6.4 percent of respondents.
According to the poll, 4.6 percent of voters would vote for the Liberal Movement, part of the ruling coalition (6.3 percent in March), 3.1 percent for the Lithuanian Regions Party (3.5 percent in March), 2.8 percent for the opposition Labour Party (4.7 percent in March), and 2.8 percent for the Freedom Party, the third member of the ruling coalition (the same as in March).
Some 1.1 percent of respondents would support the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania–Christian Families Alliance, compared to 1.6 percent in March.
Approximately 9.6 percent of respondents said they would not vote, and 25.9 percent were undecided. In March, the figures were 11.6 percent and 21.6 percent respectively.
Another 1.1 percent said they would vote for another party.
Vilmorus polled 1,000 Lithuanian residents between July 11 and 21. The results of the poll have an error margin of up to 3.1 percent.
