Lithuanian woman in critical condition after being shot in US

A Lithuanian woman was shot in Wildwood, New Jersey in the US on late Tuesday evening. The bullet hit the young woman in the head and her condition is critical. 

The shooting took place on Tuesday at around 22:00 at the Cattle n Clover bar in Wildwood.

According to CBS News, officials investigating the incident confirmed that the Lithuanian woman was not the intended target.

The injured woman was taken to an Atlantic City hospital.

The suspected shooter has reportedly already been arrested. Local law enforcement has identified the shooter as an American, William C. Hoyle.

According to CBS News, the victim is a foreigner who had come to work for the summer at the Morey’s Piers water park.

Paulina Levickytė, spokesperson for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed to the 15min news website that a Lithuanian citizen was shot in New Jersey.

“We are aware of the situation and the relatives have been informed,” she said.

According to her, the relatives have already travelled to the US. However, Levickytė said she could not confirm that the Lithuanian woman was injured in the Wildwood shooting.

Later, the victim was identified as 20-year-old Viltė Gruzdytė. Her mother, Lina Gruzdienė, said her daughter was now in stable condition.

“She is very well cared for by all the ICU staff, including a Lithuanian doctor working at the hospital,” Gruzdienė told the Lithuanian publication “Vakarų Ekspresas”.
