Lithuanian MEP-elect Virginijus Sinkevičius, a member of the Democrats “For Lithuania” party, has been elected a vice chair of the Greens/European Free Alliance group in the European Parliament.
“Virginijus Sinkevičius will assume the highest position among all Lithuanians in the new EP as he has already been elected a vice chair of the Greens/EFA group, and he was elected unanimously,” Tomas Tomilinas, another member of the Democrats “For Lithuania”, told a press conference in Vilnius on Thursday.
Sinkevičius, who is Lithuania’s outgoing EU commissioner, will be one of the Greens/EFA’s six vice chairs after being elected in late June.
The Greens/EFA will have 54 seats in the new EP and will be the sixth largest group.
Sinkevičius was a European commissioner responsible for environment, oceans and fisheries in the outgoing EC.
