Lithuanian Armed Forces received a new batch of US-made Javelin missiles for medium-range anti-tank missile launchers this week and they will be given to Land Force units.

The new batch is valued at around 16.6 million euros, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.

“The United States of America is a strategic partner of Lithuania and one of the key allies to ensure the security of the Baltic region. Javelin anti-tank systems received and procured from the United States undoubtedly contribute to the long-term enhancement of the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ combat capabilities and deterrence,” Defence Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas was quoted as saying in a statement.

The replenishment of the national stockpile with Javelin systems has become particularly relevant amid the difficult geopolitical situation caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine, the ministry added.

According to the ministry, Lithuania has purchased more than 20 percent of new military equipment and weapons from the US.
