Lithuanian president tells minister to ‘calm down’ after talks of imminent Russian attack

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has called on Gabrielius Landsbergis to “take a seat and calm down” after the latter said in an interview that it was only a matter of time before Russia launched an attack against the Baltics and other NATO members.

“Nothing has happened in recent weeks or days that we did not know before. However, [...] suddenly things started to be exaggerated,” Nausėda told reporters on Thursday.

“I’d suggest that the foreign minister just take a seat and calm down,” he added.

Landsbergis has said recently that Lithuania should be preparing for the eventuality of Russia continuing to fight against NATO countries, unless it is totally defeated in Ukraine.

The foreign minister was thus stressing the need for Lithuania to focus more on defence and for the EU and US not to press Ukraine to negotiate a peace agreement with Russia.
