The police will start fining car passengers for carrying open containers of alcohol, according to Ramūnas Matonis, spokesperson for the Police Department.
The legal changes, banning people in cars from “consuming, storing and transporting alcohol products in open containers” came into force in 2009. However, until now, only the driver would be punished.
Now, it will also be the passengers who will be penalised, with fines “increased from 40 to 100 euros”, Matonis told LRT RADIO on Wednesday.
The changes will enter into force on June 1.
