Lithuanian glider manufacturer Sportinė Aviacija ir Ko has signed a contract with a Belarusian-owned company producing unmanned aerial vehicles.
LRT RADIO has found that the factory, based in Pociūnai (Prienai Distirct, west Lithuania), received an advance payment and started production of wings, but the bank suspended payments after suspicions arose.
Belarus has been sanctioned by the EU and Lithuania over its involvement in Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Sigitas Besagirskas, chairman of the Lithuanian company’s board of directors, told LRT RADIO that according to the blueprints, the wings did not appear to be dual-purpose, but admitted that they could have been intended for dual-purpose drones.
For his part, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, chairman of the parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defence (NSGK), noted that he had contacted the State Security Department to have the information verified.
