Lithuania has pledged 10 million euros through the World Bank’s special financing instrument for Ukraine’s reconstruction and resilience-building in Moldova, the Finance Ministry said on Thursday.

“The new instrument created by the World Bank is an important tool to mobilise donor support for the first broader reconstruction projects in Ukraine, as well as to support the resilience and development of war-affected Moldova,” Finance Minister Gintarė Skaistė was quoted as saying in a press release.

“Lithuania will continue its consistent support to Ukraine by providing 10 million euros through this instrument, which, thanks to the World Bank, will be multiplied to 30 million euros in support for the reconstruction of critical infrastructure,” she said.

The new instrument will allow mobilising additional funds for reconstruction projects in Ukraine and allocating resources to Moldova, which is facing the negative consequences of the war, the minister said.

Lithuania has to date allocated over 900 million euros in humanitarian, financial and military assistance to Ukraine, accounting for 1.3 percent of the country’s GDP.

The latest World Bank estimate puts Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery costs at over 411 billion US dollars.
