The telecommunications company Tele2 is discontinuing discounts on call charges in Ukraine. Calls to Lithuania and within Ukraine will become six times more expensive.

Tele2 users were notified on Monday that roaming rates in Ukraine will change from April 27 from the existing 0.05 euro per minute for domestic and Lithuanian calls to 0.3 euro. Incoming calls will cost 0.25 euro, text messages will cost 0.05 each, and mobile data will cost 20 euros per gigabyte.

For Tele2 customers in Ukraine, the company is distributing special Pildyk SIM cards. Their holders now have 60 minutes of free calls, free messages and mobile data for 3 months, and once the limits are exceeded, they are charged the usual 0.05 euro per minute.

Meanwhile, Tele2’s competitor Telia Lietuva has extended its lower mobile charges between Ukraine and Lithuania until at least mid-summer, the company said. Its clients will continue to pay 0.06 euro per minute for calls from Lithuania to Ukraine, 0.085 per minute for calls in Ukraine and to Lithuania, and mobile data will be below the regulated pricing among EU operators, at about 2 euros per gigabyte.

The company has so far committed to providing all Ukrainian refugees in Lithuania with an unlimited number of free SIM cards for the pre-paid service Ežys, and has distributed almost 40,000 pre-paid cards since the beginning of the war.

Telia’s current charges will be in place until July 1.

Mobile operators Telia, Bitė, and Tele2 announced their special charges for Ukraine the day after Russia launched the invasion in February 2022.
