Lithuania’s authorities have ordered internet providers to block IP addresses used to access banned Russian TV channels online.

The Radio and Television Commission of Lithuania (LRTK) will ban IP addresses of the servers used to access NTV, Pervyi Kanal, Rossiya 1, Rossiya 24, and RTR Planeta TV channels, the watchdog said in a press release.

The decision was taken on March 8 following discussions with internet service providers, the LRTK said, after making sure they are capable of implementing the measures.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Lithuania banned media owned, controlled, or financed by Moscow or Belarus.

However, some channels remain available online, according to the press release.

Following the Russian invasion, the Council of the European Union imposed sanctions on the Russian TV channels RT, Sputnik, Rossiya RTR/RTR Planeta, Rossiya 24/Russia 24, TV Centre International, NTV/NTV Mir, Rossiya 1, REN TV and Pervyi Kanal.
