Lithuania’s Klaipėda to rename Russian school

The City Council of Lithuania’s port city Klaipėda has decided to rename the Russian-speaking Maxim Gorky School to Uostamiesčio (Port City) School. 

The move was prompted by the escalating geopolitical situation due to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The school was named after the famous Russian writer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries back in 1945.

Seventy percent of the school’s students, their parents, and teachers said in October that they wanted the name changed.
