Ukraine downs 8 targets with Lithuanian-supplied Stingers – defence minister

BNS 2022.04.06 16:06

Ukrainian forces have shot down eight Russian targets, using Stinger short-range air defence systems provided by Lithuania, Lithuanian Minister of Defence Arvydas Anušauskas says.

“We have information that the Ukrainians we trained to use Stinger air defence systems just before the Russian aggression started have now reported that they used them and shot down eight targets,” the minister told reporters on Wednesday.

“Evidently, the support that has been given in its time is being used to defend Ukraine,” he added.

In late February, in addition to the Stinger systems, Lithuanian troops handed over a large number of automatic rifles, ammunition, helmets, and bullet-proof vests to the Ukrainian army.

Military assistance to Ukraine continues, although specific details are not disclosed.
