Estonian MEP Jaak Madison from the far-right EKRE party has nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
"In the last 30 years, Donald Trump is the first president of the United States, who during his tenure, has not started a war,” the MEP said on social media.
According to the country’s public broadcaster ERR News, Madison nominated the former US president two hours before the deadline at midnight on January 31. Members of the European parliament are among those who can nominate candidates.
Former US president Barack Obama won the prize in 2009.
Among other controversial statements, the far-right EKRE party has previously questioned the integrity of Lithuanian and US elections. Following the government collapse earlier this year, EKRE is no longer part of the Estonian ruling coalition.
