Lithuanian travelers could face self-quarantine in Latvia

BNS 2020.08.26 09:29

Latvia may order a 14-day mandatory isolation for Lithuanian travelers if Lithuania's coronavirus infection rate exceeds 16 cases per 100,000 people, the neighbouring country’s Health Ministry has said.

“The current rules in Latvia stipulate that persons returning from a country with a 14-day coronavirus incidence rate of over 16 cases per 100,000 inhabitants must self-isolate for two weeks,” Santa Livina, the head of the ministry's Public Health Department, said in a comment to BNS on Tuesday.

“This rule applies both to Latvians returning from coronavirus-affected countries and to [foreign] travelers arriving in Latvia,” the official said.

If Lithuania's coronavirus incidence rate, which currently stands at 14.6, reaches 16, “Lithuanian residents will have to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival in Latvia”, she added.

Lithuania's Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga said on Tuesday that Latvia was not planning to close its borders to Lithuanians due to rising coronavirus cases in the country.
