Following internet outages in Belarus, LRT has launched a Telegram channel to share news in English and Russian languages.
It can be accessed here, or by typing @lrtlt in the Telegram app.
“Events in Belarus have pushed us to take this step,” said assistant editor of LRT.lt, Aleksandra Katlerienė. “Due to limits imposed on the internet, independent sources of information and free media have become difficult to access.”
“In recent days, we have seen that readership from Belarus has almost completely dropped off,” she added.
“It’s clear that the need to access information from Lithuania, which has recently provided refuge to Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, remains,” said Katlerienė. “Therefore, we have decided to use Telegram that continues to be accessible in Belarus.”
Aiming to shed light on events in the neighbouring country, LRT journalists are speaking with experts who are currently in Belarus, opposition representatives, journalists and witnesses, as well as the country’s diaspora in Lithuania.
LRT.lt currently publishes news in three languages – Lithuanian, English, and Russian. You can also find LRT Novosti on Facebook.
