Jonas Sakalauskas, the director of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater, has tested positive for the coronavirus, leading to temporary suspension of the theater's operation.
Sakalauskas himself confirmed it to BNS on Friday.
“I received a positive coronavirus test result this morning, procedures are now underway and my contacts are being traced,” he said.
Sakalauskas said he first developed symptoms on Wednesday and went to a private clinic for a coronavirus test on Thursday. He says he does not know where he could have gotten infected, since he didn't travel abroad lately nor had any direct contact with known coronavirus cases.
Sakalauskas says he avoided contact with the theater's staff this week and only had close interactions a dozen people at the theatre, mainly the management.
“We decided to disinfect the theater, suspend work and test possible contacts, so as to allow those with no risk to get back to work, once the results are in,” Sakalauskas said.
Over 600 people work at the theatre which was planning to resume performances in August.
