The nationwide quarantine, which was introduced in Lithuania in mid-March, will be lifted on June 17, the government decided on Wednesday. However, some restrictions will remain in place.

“In light of the gradually improving Covid-19 epidemic situation both in Lithuania and in European countries, we propose to lift the quarantine in the entire territory of Lithuania as of June 17,” Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga said as he introduced the resolution.

The proposal was adopted unanimously by cabinet ministers.

Veryga noted that restrictions on mass events, special rules in healthcare institutions and border controls would stay even after the end of the quarantine.

After June 17, wearing facemasks in public will no longer be mandatory, but still recommended. At the moment, everyone must wear masks in shops, public transport, museums and other indoor public spaces.

Outdoor events will remain restricted to 700 people until the end of June and 1,000 people afterwards. Indoor events are not allowed to have more than 150, and 200 people after July 1.

Restrictions on international travel also remain in place. Lithuania allows arrivals from European countries with fewer than 25 new coronavirus cases per 100,000 people over the last two weeks. The list of countries that meet the benchmark is updated every Monday.
