The Roop will represent Lithuania at the Eurovision finals in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on May 12–16.
In the national finals on Friday in Kaunas, Lithuania’s second city, the jury and the general public voted overwhelmingly in favour of the song On Fire by The Roop.
They led the popular vote by a large margin – with 34,585 votes, The Roop outpaced the runner-by Monique who scored 10,366.
The band was chosen out of eight contestants that included Aistė Pilvelytė, Rūta Loop, KaYra, Monika Marija, Monique, MEANDI and The Backs.
Over 60 songs were submitted for consideration and over half of them were selected for the national competition. Only new songs that had not been publicly performed before September 2019 were eligible.
Lithuania debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. In 2006, We Are The Winner’ by the band LT United finished sixth, Lithuania's highest achievement so far.
