Poland has detained a Belarusian citizen suspected of spying for Belarusian military intelligence and carrying out activities in Poland, Germany and Lithuania, prosecutors said Monday.

The announcement comes as Warsaw warns of attempts by Russia and Belarus to destabilise countries supporting Ukraine.

Prosecutor’s office spokesman Przemysław Nowak said Pavel T. has been charged with conducting espionage on behalf of Belarusian military intelligence from June 2024 to February 2026. He was detained on February 9.

According to Nowak, the suspect identified components of critical infrastructure and other facilities important to Poland’s and NATO’s defence on the territories of Poland, Germany and Lithuania.

Nowak said Pavel T. has been placed in pretrial detention for three months and faces a minimum sentence of five years in prison if convicted.

Poland’s Internal Security Agency detained the man in cooperation with Germany’s domestic intelligence service (BfV) and Lithuania’s State Security Department (VSD).
