Lithuania expects first HIMARS batteries to arrive this year

Lithuania expects to receive the first HIMARS multiple launch rocket system batteries this year, Defence Chief Raimundas Vaikšnoras announced Wednesday.

“We expect the first HIMARS batteries to arrive this year, along with NASAMS, as well as some additional weapons and ammunition,” he told reporters in Vilnius.

Lithuania signed a 495-million-dollar deal with the United States in late 2021 to purchase eight HIMARS systems.

Initially, plans had the first deliveries to reach the country in 2025. The Lithuanian armed forces expect the systems to reach full operational capability by 2027.

Lithuania has already received its first NASAMS medium-range air defence battery. Delivery of a second battery is due to begin in the first quarter of 2026 and be completed by 2027, while a third battery is expected in 2028.
