Lithuania has ordered a third Mobile Short Range Air Defence (MSHORAD) system from Swedish manufacturer Saab Dynamics, the Defence Ministry announced on Monday. The contract is valued at over €119 million.
The system will include Giraffe 1X radars, RBS70 NG missile launchers, and an integrated fire control and command system. Deliveries are scheduled between 2026 and 2029.
“We are strengthening Lithuania’s airspace defences. The MSHORAD system, with Giraffe 1X radars for enhanced low-altitude surveillance, will significantly improve the Armed Forces’ ability to detect unmanned aerial vehicles and other low-flying objects,” Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said.
A separate contract, valued at around €11 million, will soon be signed with Saab Dynamics to integrate the system’s components into Lithuania’s JLTV armoured vehicles.
