Lithuania has lodged a fresh note of protest with a representative of the Russian Embassy in Vilnius, condemning the Kremlin’s continued assault on Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
The latest démarche follows the shelling of Ukrainian territory between November 14 and 17.
“More than ten civilians were killed and several dozen injured, while homes, apartment blocks, a hospital, energy facilities and other infrastructure in Kyiv and the wider capital region, as well as in Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy and elsewhere, were damaged,” the ministry said.
The note also highlights that Russia’s November 14 strike caused significant damage to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv – an incident described by Vilnius as a gross violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Lithuania further drew attention to a video published on November 15 that appears to show Russian soldiers executing two Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Zaporizhzhia region.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers that Russia’s military and political leadership continues to ignore these crimes, as well as the public incitement to commit them, which only reaffirms that such actions are carried out with the knowledge and approval of the authorities. All of these acts by the Russian Federation’s armed forces constitute war crimes,” the statement said.
Lithuania has issued multiple diplomatic notes to Russia since the full-scale invasion began in 2022, now doing so routinely after major strikes on Ukraine. A few weeks ago, Vilnius protested over Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
