The Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (Telecentras) resumed rebroadcasting Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s (RFE/RL) Russian-language service Radio Svoboda on medium wave on August 1.
“In the first half of this year, when RFE/RL faced funding issues, Telecentras aired the Radio Svoboda programme at its own expense for two months – in April and May – but was forced to stop providing the service on June 1,” Marius Skudutis, head of radio and television services at the state-owned company, said in a press release on Wednesday.
“We are pleased that RFE/RL has resolved its funding issues, which allowed us to restart the Radio Svoboda broadcast without delay,” he said.
Radio Svoboda is a Russian-language service of the international media group Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
According to Telecentras, Radio Svoboda is rebroadcast daily in the morning from a medium wave transmitter in Lithuania, reaching audiences within 1,000-kilometre radius.
