Reporters spoke with the missing man’s father, who said that his son often mentioned wanting to live “somewhere better”.
The outlet reports that Danil M. had lived in Domodedovo, near Moscow, for the past few years. Their sources suggest that he may have been employed at a railcar depot in Moscow.
Reporters were unable to contact the 21-year-old directly – his phone was reportedly blocked.
His father said he only learned of his son’s disappearance from news reports, as they no longer live together.
Lithuanian authorities say the search for the Russian national continues.
The interior minister played down “sinister motives”, while the border guards said disappearances from the transit train have happened before.
The Kaliningrad transit scheme was established in 2003 as Lithuania was joining the European Union. As part of the deal, Russian passengers and cargo can move by rail via Lithuania to reach the exclave on the Baltic Sea.
