Chances of 'bad peace' in Ukraine are low, says Lithuanian minister

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said the chances of an unsustainable peace in Ukraine were low.

"Are we going to have a bad peace? A bad peace would mean a short-lived one that no one believes in – not the Ukrainian side, not the United States, and not Russia. I would rate that probability as low," Lithuania's top diplomat said in an interview with BNS.

"We don't have that bad scenario on the table yet – a fake peace, an imitation of peace, which would only cause more destruction and lead to an even bigger war," he added.

According to the minister, US mediation in ceasefire talks showed that a peaceful resolution with Russia was unlikely.

Earlier, media reports indicated that US President Donald Trump had suggested officially recognising Russia's 2014 takeover of Crimea, an annexation rejected by nearly the entire world, as well as land swaps between Russia and Ukraine.
