Commerzbank, one of Germany’s largest banks, officially opened its representative office in Vilnius on Tuesday.

The office will focus on deepening business relationships and initiating opportunities for trade and project financing in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

It will strengthen Commerzbank’s presence in the Baltics, “responding to the growing economic importance of the [...] region”, the bank said in a press release.

“We are where our clients need us. This is why we are adapting our international network to the developments of international trade,” Brigitte Rethier, Commerzbank’s divisional board member for institutional clients and transaction banking sales, was quoted as saying at the opening ceremony in Vilnius.

Commerzbank noted that “Lithuania and the Baltic region have experienced economic prosperity for several years”.

“The bank’s new representative office in Lithuania marks a further step in Commerzbank’s international growth strategy,” it said in the press release.

The bank opened the office at a closed event attended by politicians, business representatives, and banking officials.

In addition to Germany, Commerzbank operates in 43 countries worldwide, including Russia.
