Vilnius lit its main Christmas tree on Friday evening, officially launching the festive season.
The natural tree, installed in Cathedral Square, is encased in a huge bubble-shaped construction structure that evokes a Christmas globe, a decoration traditionally hung, on smaller scale, on a tree.
According to Vilnius municipality, the tree is lit with a lights garland that is about 7 km long.
The Christmas tree will stand in the city’s main square until January 6.
The symbolic lighting of the Christmas tree also marks the start of the winter festival Christmas in the Capital 2024. The programme includes a Christmas train, a market, an ice rink, and many other attractions.
