Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda says he intends to publish a book next year, in which he will reveal more information about his relations with the ruling conservatives, among other things.
“Actually, I was once a conservative voter, and for quite a long time. But this party has a certain characteristic – it makes people who sympathise with it neutral and then hostile,” he said in an interview with BNS.
“It just happens, and I could give many examples of other people. As to how it was in 2019, I am going to reveal in a book. I think that the book will come out sometime in 2025, so I don’t want to talk much about it now,” Nausėda added.
Before the presidential elections in 2019, the conservatives suggested that Nausėda, then an economist, should take part in the presidential primaries of the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD).
He declined this opportunity, stating his bid to take part in the presidential election with an independent election agenda.
Diplomat Vygaudas Ušackas then vied against Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė for the right to become TS-LKD’s presidential candidate.
Eventually, Šimonyte was picked as the party’s presidential candidate. She came in second in the 2019 presidential election, defeated by Nausėda in the run-off.
