Lithuania’s Refugee Reception Centre will become the Reception and Integration Agency from next year, the government decided on Wednesday.
The agency will be subordinate to the Social Security and Labour Ministry and will be responsible for ensuring material reception conditions and assistance for all foreigners.
According to the ministry, the new agency will manage and select, through public procurement or partners, all temporary accommodation places for foreigners, thus placing all non-detained foreigners in temporary accommodation.
Under the plan, the new agency will take over and carry out some of the functions of the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), including the transport of foreigners to temporary accommodation places, as well as the organisation of social and other services.
The Reception and Integration Agency will also take over 52 posts from the VSAT’s Foreigners Registration Centre.
According to the ministry, no additional state budget funds will be required for the restructuring of the foreigner reception system.
