Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda signed a decree on Monday nominating Ingrida Šimonytė for reappointment as prime minister.
The issue is being put before the parliament, Seimas, after Nausėda was sworn in for a second term as president last week and the government returned its mandate, a courtesy move required by the constitution.
The prime minister will face a confidence test in the Seimas on Tuesday. Šimonytė’s candidacy will be approved if she wins the support of more than half of the MPs present at the vote.
If Šimonytė continues as prime minister, she will also have to agree with the president on the composition of the new cabinet.
