Baltics urge US House to pass Ukraine aid package

The speakers of the Baltic parliaments have urged the US House of Representatives to pass a multi-billion-dollar aid package for Ukraine.

In their joint letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson, the Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian parliament speakers thanked him for his “personal leadership in setting the path for the Congress to demonstrate historic bipartisan unity in support of the collective efforts to assist Ukraine”.

“We are counting on Congress to make the right decision and approve the assistance package to Ukraine that it so urgently needs. For the sake of standing up to tyrants and aggressors and for the sake of our collective security,” the letter reads. “Supporting Ukraine is an investment in our collective secure future.”

The three Baltic parliamentary speakers paid a joint visit to the US in January.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a 95-billion-dollar aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan on Saturday.

Some fellow Republicans have threatened to remove Johnson from office if he brings the package to a vote.
