In 2023, Lithuanians lost 288 million euros through gambling and lotteries, Virginijus Daukšys, head of the Gaming Supervision Authority, has said.

“Last year, people in Lithuania gambled away 222 million euros. Another 66 million was lost in lotteries, so we have 288 million euros in total,” Daukšys told a press conference on Monday.

“It’s difficult to say how many of them gamble problematically, for entertainment, or pathologically because we do not manage this data,” he added.

After Šarūnas Stepukonis, a former BaltCap Infrastructure Fund (BInF) partner allegedly embezzled and gambled away around 27 million euros, the Lithuanian MPs registered amendments to the Gambling Law proposing to further tighten gambling advertising in the country as of 2025.

“The only exception would be for advertisements in front of gambling houses or on the websites where online gambling takes place,” conservative MP Mindaugas Lingė told LRT.lt.
