On Thursday, the prime ministers of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania said in a statement that they were joining the G7 Declaration of Support for Ukraine.

"We firmly believe that only NATO membership will provide Ukraine with security guarantees and a credible deterrent needed to avert future aggression by expansionist Russia," the Baltic leaders said.

The joint statement was issued by the offices of Kaja Kallas in Estonia, Krišjānis Kariņš in Latvia, and Ingrida Šimonytė in Lithuania.

At last month's NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 countries pledged long-term military support to Ukraine. At least a dozen other countries have joined the pledge by Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States to support Ukraine militarily. The initiative aims to signal long-term security guarantees for Kyiv.

The three Baltic prime ministers expressed their "unwavering support and solidarity with the people and the government of Ukraine who are heroically defending the freedom, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of their country".

They also pledged to keep supporting Ukraine "until victory" and to "continue contributing to international efforts to safeguard its independence, sovereignty, security, democracy, and prosperity".

The leaders backed Ukraine’s NATO membership and also said they would "work closely with Ukraine on its way to EU membership".
