Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on Thursday met with Polish Ambassador to Lithuania Konstanty Radziwiłł and raised the issue of the Polish state awards given to Waldemar Tomaszewski and Stanislaw Pieszko, the 15min.lt news website reported on Friday.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki presented the “badges of honour for services to the Polish diaspora” to Tomaszewski and Pieszko during his visit to Vilnius on Tuesday.
Tomaszewski, the leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance, previously criticised the ban on Russian channels in Lithuania and argued that it was necessary to seek contact with the Belarusian authorities.
According to 15min.lt, Pieszko was associated with the pro-Soviet organisation Yedinstvo and did not vote for Lithuanian independence on March 11, 1990.
Morawiecki’s move has also been criticised in the Polish press, 15min.lt pointed out.
