Lithuanian medics set to leave for Ukraine's Kharkiv region

BNS 2023.04.21 09:56

Three Lithuanian medics are leaving for Ukraine's Kharkiv region on Friday and will work there for a month, the Vilnius-based NGO Blue/Yellow has told BNS.

Nurses One Bartkienė and Vaiva Jankienė, and Skirmantas Krunkaitis, a resident family physician, have already volunteered at Cherkasy Regional Hospital and outpatient clinics in the district of Bucha.

The NGO says the aim is to make it a long-term project, rather than a one-off mission.

"I hope that with our experience and practice of repeated volunteering in Ukraine and with the Blue/Yellow force, this can become a bigger wave rather than an isolated event," Krunkaitis told BNS in a comment.

"This mission is expected to lay the foundations for the future work of other medical workers and to provide the necessary assistance to Ukrainian people and colleagues," he said.

Blood and urine analysers, purchased by the Rotary Club, are also being sent to Kharkiv, with plans to buy and deliver medicines for the mission as well, according to Blue/Yellow.
