On Monday night, a shopping centre Retroville, managed by Lithuanian investment company BT Invest, was shelled in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

In Ukraine, BT Invest also owns a retail chain Novus. The shopping centre was not destroyed during the shelling, with the main damage done to the annex adjacent to the main building, which housed Novus offices, according to a BT Invest representative Gintautas Pavalkis.

“There was an explosion in the area of the shopping centre, where the sports club was. It is now gone, completely destroyed, and the Novus office is badly damaged,” Pavalkis told LRT.lt.

“The blast damaged the shopping centre itself, but […] it is still standing and there is no structural damage. The office and the annex have been destroyed, but the shopping centre will be able to continue its work in the future,” he added.

According to Pavalkis, the shopping centre was closed at the time of the attack but “some people were injured”.

Surveillance camera footage released by the Kyiv services showed a huge explosion at the shopping centre. This was followed by a series of smaller explosions.

At least eight people were killed in the shelling of the Retroville shopping centre in Kyiv, Ukrainian news agency UNIAN has reported.
