Lithuanian biathletes "will fight like partisans" at the Beijing Winter Olympics, according to a press release by the country's Biathlon Federation revealing the new uniform designs.
“A rich green colour is tied to resistance. Green is a Lithuanian colour, and all the greatest victories [of the country] have been achieved wearing it,” said designer Aleksandras Pogrebnojus. He created the pattern in collaboration with ceramist Valdas Pukevičius.
“The pattern is filled with Lithuanian symbols. The ceramist made a ceramic panel, we photographed it, and made a pattern out of it,” the designer added.
The uniform also features the triangle-shaped flag of Lithuania that was characteristic of partisan clothing, according to Pogrebnojus.
Five biathletes will represent Lithuania at the Beijing Winter Olympics in February. This will be the largest biathlon delegation in the country’s history.
