Lithuania's former President Dalia Grybauskaitė received the Knight of Freedom Award at the annual Warsaw Security Forum on Wednesday evening.

The award is presented by the Casimir Pulaski Foundation, an independent Polish think-tank focusing on foreign policy and international security.

According to Grybauskaitė's office, she was given the award for her merits in enhancing the security of the Baltic countries and Poland, and for her strong stance on Russia's invasion in Ukraine.

The former president said the award was a recognition of Lithuania's contribution to regional defence efforts over the past ten years.

“A great honor to receive the #KnightOfFreedom award – united by history #Lithuania and #Poland know the value of freedom and join the efforts for more secure European future,” she tweeted.

Previous recipients of the award include Lithuania's former President Valdas Adamkus.

The Casimir Pulaski Foundation has organized the Warsaw Security Forum annually since 2014.
