Police are investigating a break-in at the Ministry of Culture in Vilnius, authorities said Tuesday.
According to the Police Department, officers were alerted before Monday noon, at about 11:25, to a possible burglary at the ministry’s premises on Basanavičiaus Street. Unidentified individuals are believed to have entered the building after damaging a window handle.
The extent of the damage or any losses has not yet been determined, police said. A pretrial investigation has been launched.
Under Lithuania’s Criminal Code, theft committed by breaking into premises, secured areas or infrastructure of strategic or national security importance is punishable by a fine, restriction of liberty, arrest, or imprisonment of up to six years.
