Swiss privacy technology company Proton is expanding its software development operations in Vilnius, Invest Lithuania reported Tuesday. The financial terms of the expansion were not disclosed.
Beatriz Dominguez, Proton’s vice president for staff, said Lithuania offers favourable conditions for developing new privacy-protecting products thanks to government incentives and strong connections to European data infrastructure.
“The country has a large pool of engineering talent, especially in cybersecurity, cryptography, and mobile application development – precisely the areas that help us fulfil our mission,” Dominguez said in a statement.
Proton plans to invest in engineering, mobile app development, data engineering, and quality assurance and testing capacities in Vilnius. The company is seeking skilled programmers familiar with modern development practices, CI/CD workflows, and experience working in global teams.
Proton established its Vilnius office in 2019, which currently employs about 20 specialists. The office serves as a regional research and development hub supporting Proton’s global product teams.
Founded in 2014, Proton is an international provider of secure open-source services, with more than 100 million users across over 180 countries. Its products include Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Calendar, Proton Pass, Proton Authenticator, and Proton Wallet.
