Lithuania’s Prime Minister-designate Gintautas Paluckas has confirmed that he is nominating Marija Jakubauskienė, the head of the Institute of Health Sciences at Vilnius University’s Faculty of Medicine, for the position of healthcare minister.
Meanwhile, Vladislav Kondratovič, head of administration at Vilnius District Municipality, is being proposed as the next interior minister.
“I can confirm that,” Paluckas told BNS on Tuesday.
Alytus Mayor Nerijus Cesiulis was previously proposed for interior minister, but he announced over the weekend that he decided to decline the offer and remain at the current job.
Paluckas also said he had met with Gintautas Bartkus, one of the potential candidates for justice minister, but did not confirm that he was the candidate that would be proposed to the president.
Virginijus Kulikauskas, a former chief of the Lithuanian Prison Service, has also been mentioned in media reports as a potential candidate for justice minister.
Under the ruling coalition agreement, the Nemunas Dawn party gets to nominate the ministers of justice, environment, and agriculture.
Paluckas said he would unveil the names of his candidates for these positions later this week.
Paluckas, a Social Democrat, was appointed prime minister last week and has 15 days to form a government. The deadline expires at the end of next week.
