US to stop issuing immigration visas in Lithuania

The US Embassy in Vilnius will no longer provide its regular immigration services from December 2, which will now only be available in Stockholm, Sweden.

Immigration services include family reunification or Green Card visas, as well as fiancé (K-type) and V92/V93 (asylum/refugee family member) visas.

The aim is to simplify the process and reduce waiting times, the Embassy of the United States in Lithuania told LRT.lt.

Because visa interviews can only be conducted in person, Lithuanian nationals applying for an immigration visa will now have to travel to Stockholm.

"In many countries where there are several US consular offices, the processing of immigrant visas is already centralised in one place. In addition, nine European missions process immigration visas on behalf of consular offices in other countries in the region,” the embassy said.

Stockholm already processes immigration visas for Denmark and Norway, the embassy said.

"The Consular Section of the Embassy in Vilnius will continue to provide assistance to US citizens and to process non-immigrant visa applications,” the embassy said.

If your interview has already taken place in Vilnius, the visa will be processed in Lithuania.

However, if a person has been asked to provide additional documents or evidence, the US embassy has urged people to do so as quickly as possible.
