Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-Lung is coming to Lithuania with a delegation.
Bloomberg reported on Saturday, citing its sources, that the delegation includes officials from Taiwan’s Economic Ministry and executives from a range of companies.
Representatives from more than ten drone companies are also part of the delegation.
On Saturday, Taipei’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said that Taiwan will continue its cooperation with Lithuania in semiconductor development, despite the announcement that Lithuania’s tech company Teltonika is halting the construction of its High-Tech Hill park in Vilnius.
“Despite the hiccup, MOFA said a semiconductor partnership between Taiwan and Lithuania will continue,” Focus Taiwan reported.
The ministry confirmed in a statement that Teltonika “has stopped the construction of an industrial park in Vilnius, where 10 investment projects, including the one between Taiwan and the Baltic state, had been planned”, it said.
In December 2022, the Lithuanian Economy Ministry signed a contract with the Teltonika Group to build the second phase of the Teltonika High-Tech Hill technology park on a 14-hectare site near Liepkalnio Street by 2029 to produce semiconductors using Taiwanese technology.
However, Arvydas Paukštys, the Teltonika Group’s founder, said on Friday he was halting the construction of the 3.5-billion-euro industrial park because there was “no hope” of securing the necessary electricity supply by 2027 and because the company ran into bureaucratic hurdles regarding land zoning.
The announcement sent shockwaves in the country, with government leaders vowing to find solutions. On Saturday, Paukštys specified that that he was “not giving up hope” for the project’s future prospects.
