The founders of Tesonet Global, Tomas Okmanas and Eimantas Sabaliauskas, have been named as potential recipients of the title of “national patrons” for donating more than one million euros to an NGO supporting Ukraine.
The Culture Ministry said on Thursday Okmanas and Sabaliauskas were nominated for the title for donating 1,022,500 euros to the Blue and Yellow NGO helping Ukraine.
Tesonet Global is a business accelerator. Among its products is NordVPN, one of the most popular VPN solutions in the world. Its developer, Nord Security which was also founded by Okmanas and Sabaliauskas, is one of Lithuania’s few “unicorns”, tech companies valued at over one billion US dollars.
This is only a second times since the adoption of the Law on Patronage in 2018 that the Patronage Council proposes awarding the title.
The first title was awarded to Arvydas Paukštys, the founder and owner of Teltonika, for his assistance in restoring a church in Balbieriškis.
According to the law, the title of a national patron is awarded to a person who has provided at least 1 million euros to a project under their patronage during a year.
