BNS 2024.02.21 12:10

Lithuania is taking over the chairmanship of the EU Cyber Rapid Response Force (CRRT) Council, the Defence Ministry said on Wednesday.

“This year, as it chairs the CRRT Council, Lithuania has prepared an ambitious operational plan for the force, and it includes various activation options, exercises, training of technical experts and more. In addition, we hope to attract several new member states to the project in 2024,” Defence Vice Minister Greta Monika Tučkutė said at the council meeting on Tuesday. “Lithuania will continue its active efforts to increase the CRRT’s level of readiness and skills.”

The CRRT team has reached full operational capability in 2021 and is ready to respond to cyber incidents as well as to enhance the resilience of the EU and partners.

Lithuania has taken over the chairmanship of the CRRT Council for the second time, with the nine CRRT countries taking over the chairmanship of the council on a rotating basis.

The CRRT team currently consists of 16–18 cyber security experts from Belgium, Denmark, Croatia, Estonia, Estonia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia.

Four more countries are interested in joining the project.

Established in 2018 under the EU’s Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), the CRRT team can offer assistance in managing or preventing cyber incidents.

In recent years, the CRRT’s capability has been tested in providing support to EU partner countries, such as Ukraine and Moldova, as well as during the EU military training mission in Mozambique.
